Get Help for Sleep Apnea HERE!

gary-lg-photoDid you know there are thousands of dentists trained to help treat and manage snoring and sleep apnea? Well, you’re in luck, I happen to be one of those dentists. I can help control obstructive sleep apnea and snoring through the use of oral appliance therapy (OAT).

The therapy includes using a custom-fit “mouth guard-like” device worn only during sleep to maintain an open, unobstructed airway. The device helps to prevent the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues in the back of the throat, keeping the airway open and allowing for adequate air intake. It’s a very effective treatment for people with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea and/or for people who don’t tolerate CPAP machines.

We begin by reviewing a recent sleep study or we can set up an at home sleep test. If it appears the patient does indeed have sleep apnea we will test them using a pharyngometer to see if they are a good candidate for OAT and to determine the optimum position for the appliance to get the best outcome.

Not sure if you may be suffering from sleep apnea. Below are some very common symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea:

  • Loud snoring
  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Observed episodes of breathing cessation during sleep
  • Abrupt awakenings accompanied by shortness of breath
  • Awakening with a dry mouth or sore throat
  • Awakening with chest pain
  • Morning headache
  • Difficulty concentrating during the day
  • Experiencing mood changes, such as depression or irritability
  • Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
  • Having high blood pressure

If you have or are suffering from any of the above symptoms and suspect you may have obstructive sleep apnea, call us today at (970) 858-4544 to schedule a consultation
